Structure Plan Adopted
Councillors Mulholland, Langdon and Melican spoke in length about the process to get to this stage and thanked Banyule residents, the Community Consultative Committee, Save Ivanhoe Residents Group, MGS Architects and Council officers for their contribution since the original draft plan was scrapped. You can read our thoughts on the process to date here.
This is a significant milestone, however there is still some work to go to get the new guidelines into the planning scheme. Given this process can take 12 months or more, Council also committed to applying to the Minister for Planning for interim planning controls. This would provide guidance to planning officers when assessing future development applications. At this stage it is unclear whether interim planning controls will be granted or the timeframe it takes to grant these controls. We'll keep you posted during 2013 with any updates.
We believe the progress since the first draft plan was released has been significant. This could only occur from the groundswell of
community feedback. Thank you to the residents who submitted responses to Council, who attended meetings, workshops and walks and who volunteered their time to contribute to Save Ivanhoe special interest groups. We've had over handled 5000 emails since formation
back in August 2011. A particular thanks to those residents who were part of the Save Ivanhoe coordinating group and contributed to the campaign. Thank you to those residents who stuck with the campaign throughout and attended Monday's Council meeting.
We are grateful to the members of the Community Consultative Committee (CCC) for volunteering their time, in particular those that have been part of the process for the last four years.
To Council officers and Councillors we thank you for listening and starting the consultative process again when the community rejected the first draft plan.
We particularly thank Vincent Ryan and Rachel Dapiran who were tasked with creating the new structure plan. Rachel patiently and endlessly fielded the community's questions, issues and suggestions, responded to countless emails, prepared responses and much of the revised plan documentation.
A thank you to Banyule CEO, Simon McMillan, who made himself available throughout the process, to Scott Walker, and to Rob McGuaran and his team at MGS, who brought independent assessment and advice to the formation of the new plan.
Thank you to Councillors who have been part of the process, in particular Cr Jenny Mulholland and Cr Craig Langdon, whose wards are
impacted by the activity centre boundary and are part of the CCC. Thank you to Cr Tom Melican and former Cr Peter McKenna who took time to talk and meet with residents at critical periods in the process.
Have a safe and enjoyable holiday period. See you in 2013.
