It was a great turn-out last night with 300 residents in attendance to get an overview of the draft Ivanhoe Structure Plan. Thank you to those that organised the meeting, handed out flyers and got people there in such short notice.
We had a number of people speak. The key issues were 3, 4, 5, 6 & 8 storey towers in residential areas, overshadowing, over-development, congestion on roads, parking issues, loss of views, loss of trees and a general feeling that the character of the suburb would be irreversibly changed. There was also a belief that the community had not been adequately consulted over the last few years and a resolve to ensure residents are actively involved in shaping the 2nd draft of the plan.
To reiterate, the key messages of the meeting were:
1. Read the draft plan for yourself and make your mind up on what you see is good and what you would like changed. A copy of the plan can be found at http://www.banyule.vic.gov.au/ivanhoeproject/
2. Make sure your neighbours are aware of the Structure Plan as most people at last nights meeting only heard about it in the last 4 days
The attendees at the meeting overwhelming supported the idea of forming a Residents Group to tackle the many issues in the Structure Plan. As such a meeting was arranged for tomorrow night (Wednesday 24 August). All residents who wish to be actively involved in the group are encouraged to attend. The aim of the meeting will to be to form a Residents Group, formalise a working structure and agree on some short and medium term actions.
