Darebin Bridge - Bike Path Rally. Sunday 9 December, Sparks Reserve, Ivanhoe at 10am-11am
One of the key concerns of residents with the formation of the Ivanhoe Structure Plan was transport; road congestion, public transport and bike paths.
Funding for a bike path between Sparks Reserve, Ivanhoe to the Main Yarra trail has been on the table for a number of years but to date has not received funding from State Government to complete the project. Work on the Darebin Creek trail is within within months of having the path extended under Heidelberg Rd to Sparks Reserve. That leaves the section from Ivanhoe to the Main Yarra trail as the missing link in Melbourne's bike network.
The mayors of 6 impacted Councils (including Banyule) recently wrote to the Minister for Sustainability and Environment urging the State Government to fund the final link between Darebin Creek and the Yarra River. You can read their letter here.
On Sunday (9 December) Bicycle Network Victoria are holding a rally at Sparks Reserve, Ivanhoe at 10am-11am to urge State Government to fund the missing bike link. If this is of interest we urge you to show your support on Sunday.
